Letter from the Director

Cynthia Baker, PLSG Director, in the Ruth Lilly Law Library with student interns Shannon Rieger, '04 (intern with the Indiana Ethics Commission) and Adriana Salcedo, '04 (intern with the Indiana Department of Education).
Dear Visitor:
Welcome to the Program on Law and State Government (PLSG) at Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.
Since its inception in 1997, the PLSG has been dedicated to fostering the study and research of critical issues facing state governments. By providing education regarding these issues, the PLSG enriches and broadens the dialogue between state governments and the academic legal community. Students benefit through participation in internships, fellowships and other research initiatives, which in turn assist governments as they confront the realities of the economy, the political pressures of representative democracy and the changing landscape of federalism. Ultimately, the PLSG serves as a resource for lawyers and aspiring lawyers as they strive to better understand the confluence of law and state governments.
The PLSG offers over forty internship placements within the executive and legislative branches of Indiana's state government. The Fellowships, awarded on an annual basis, provide a unique opportunity for students to spend a calendar year working with scholars, lawyers, and public officials addressing a particular legal issue facing state governments. The Public Policy Mediation Course also exemplifies the program's interest in introducing new ways for lawyers to think about their roles in confronting disputes involving public money, public trust, and the public interest. The Program's support of the law school's State Health Law and Policy Initiative and the student Administrative Law Judge Initiative continues to expand student learning opportunities.
The work of the program is constantly evolving for the mutual benefit of the law school and the community of state governments. If you have an idea or suggestion, or would like more information on an upcoming event, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,

Director
