Can an art portfolio enhance an investment portfolio? That topic will be addressed by Professor Michael A. Moses, who, along with his colleague, Professor Jianping Mei, has created an independent fine art index to track the prices of works sold at auction. The Mei/Moses Fine Art Indices ™ track the tenor of the art market from 1875 to today. Their research findings have been published in the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance and the Journal of Investment Consulting, as well as leading print and broadcast financial media. Professor Moses has been a faculty member at NYU's Stern School of Business for 30 years. His ongoing research involves pricing the priceless: predicting success and failure in the New York auction market for impressionist and modern paintings as well as the role that momentum investing and price leadership may have on the art auction market.
An introduction to Professor Moses’ lecture, and an overview of local art initiatives, will be provided by Mindy Taylor Ross, Director of Public Art for the Arts Council of Indianapolis.
The Jordan H. and Joan R. Leibman Forum was established at IUPUI in 2004 to examine issues on the legal and business environment of the arts, and is a joint project of the IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis, the IU School of Law-Indianapolis and the IU Herron School of Art and Design.
