Dean's Message

Since assuming my position as Dean on July 1st, I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic welcome from alumni and friends of the school, in Indianapolis and elsewhere.
I am personally and professionally very excited to begin my tenure at IUI. Our school has a long and rich history of excellence in legal education and I look forward to continuing and expanding our accomplishments.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with your ideas, questions, or concerns.  My door is always open when I'm not out meeting with you and the other wonderful friends and supporters of the school.

Conference Featuring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to Take Place September 14 at Law School

On September 14, the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) will sponsor a conference entitled Relations Between Congress and the Federal Courts." The Honorable Samuel Alito Jr., Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court, will deliver the keynote address at the conference, hosted by the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis in the Wynne Courtroom in Inlow Hall.  Federal Judges, State Supreme Court Justices, U.S. Representatives, leading academics and other prominent speakers will participate in the daylong event.  See the ISBA's web site for the complete program and registration information (there is currently a waiting list): www.inbar.org.  Topics to be addressed at this daylong conference include the process for nominating federal judges, judicial activism, judges' pay, impeachment, and congressional efforts to limit federal court jurisdiction. alito1002007 is the Year of MaryEllen K. Bishop, '82
In 2007 MaryEllen Bishop has celebrated her 25-year reunion with the IU Law class of 1982 in May, taken on the role of Chairwoman of the Indiana University Alumni Association (IUAA) and started her new job at Bose McKinney & Evans, LLP.  "Involvement with IUAA is contagious and has been personally very fulfilling for me," Bishop says. "It's a family atmosphere and along with my husband, a fellow law school graduate (Michael Bishop, '80), we have met many wonderful people from all over the country."   Read more...

alito100Law School Hosts First Alumni Events in China
The law school held two alumni reunions for LL.M. graduates, one in Beijing on May 26, and another in Shanghai on June 2. Professor Jeff Grove, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, hosted the events and says the school hopes to conduct receptions in China on an annual basis and develop alumni chapters in other countries as the number of alumni increases. The LL.M. program has more than 160 alumni from 36 countries. Nearly one third of the LL.M. alumni are from Mainland China. Cale Bradford, '86 Named to Indiana Court of Appeals
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels announced the selection of Cale Bradford to the Indiana Court of Appeals on June 22, 2007.  The seven-member Judicial Nominating Commission submitted Bradford's name to Daniels along with two other judges, Hamilton Superior Court Judge William Hughes, '80 and Marion Superior Court Judge Robyn Moberly, '78.   Governor Daniels has named David Certo, '99 to take Bradford's place on the Marion Superior Court.   Read more...
