Professor Kenneth D Chestek, Faculty Advisor, Clinical Associate Professor of Law
Kenneth D. Chestek joined the Legal Analysis, Research and Communication (LARC) team in the Summer of 2003 after working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan. He graduated cum laude from University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he was Editor in Chief of the Law Review. He has extensive practice experience and has worked as the managing attorney for Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin's Erie office and as a partner in both his own firm (Chestek and Bax) and at Agresti & Agresti, in Erie, Pennsylvania. While in practice, he also served for 18 years as Chief Civil Counsel to Erie County, Pennsylvania.
He has been active in numerous capacities with the Legal Writing Institute, an organization of nearly 2000 legal writing professionals in the United States and around the world. Currently, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of LWI. He also co-chairs the ALWD/LWI Annual Survey Committee, and serves as list manager for the discussion listserv (hosted at IU-Indy law school)
He has published and given lectures on a wide variety of subjects, including teaching methods, tax exemption policy, hospitals and the uses of computers in law offices.
Professor James Dimitri, Faculty Advisor, Clinical Associate Professor of Law
After graduating summa cum laude from Valparaiso University School of Law, Professor Dimitri began practice in a small firm in Indianapolis. He then served as staff counsel for the Indiana Department of Correction and in 1995 was appointed as a Deputy Attorney General with the Indiana Attorney General's Office. While there, Professor Dimitri concentrated his practice in state and federal appeals, federal habeas corpus litigation, and tort litigation. He argued civil and criminal appeals before the Indiana Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Professor Dimitri began teaching as an adjunct professor in 1997. He became a full-time professor in 1998. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association's Appellate Practice Section.
Professor Allison Martin, Clinical Associate Professor of Law.
Professor Martin has taught extensively in the area of legal writing and moot court advocacy. Prior to coming to IU she was a lecturer in, as well as the director of, the Legal Writing program at the University of Alabama School of Law. She was also a Visiting Professor at Illinois College of Law. She clerked for the Honorable Benjamin K. Miller of the Supreme Court of Illinois from 1994 to1996. She then worked for the State of Illinois, first as an Assistant Attorney General and later as an independent consultant for the Illinois Commerce Commission. Her first legal job was with the firm of Levenfeld, Eisenberg, Janger & Glassberg in Chicago.
Professor Martin joined the Legal Analysis, Research and Communication (LARC) faculty in 2003.
