Overdue and Lost Library Materials Policy

As of January 1, 2011, the law library will begin charging for lost library materials.  Materials will be declared “lost” when the item is overdue more than 51 days.

Before an item’s status is converted to “lost,” library patrons will receive three overdue notices on the following schedule: after 7 days due, after 30 days due, and after 51 days due.  A patron may inform the library at any time that an item is lost and make payment arrangements.

If the material has not been returned after the third notice, an invoice to the patron’s account in the amount of the replacement cost of the library material plus $25.00 in processing fees will be forwarded to the University Bursar’s Office.  If the library material is returned in usable condition within one year after the bill appears on the patron’s account, the account may be credited the full amount minus $17.50 of the processing fees. Materials returned after one year will not receive a refund.

Items borrowed from other libraries are subject to the overdue and lost fees imposed by the lending library.
