Directors

Nicolas P. Terry, Hall Render Professor of Law, Co-director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health. Professor Terry teaches Torts, Products Liability, Health Information Technology, Law & Science, and Health Care Quality. Educated at Kingston University and the University of Cambridge, Professor Terry began his academic career as a member of the law faculty of the University of Exeter in England. He has served as a Senior Fellow at Melbourne Law School and held visiting faculty positions at the law schools of Santa Clara University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, Washington University, and the University of Iowa. Professor Terry’s research interests lie primarily at the intersection of medicine, law, and information technology. He is one of the permanent bloggers at the HealthLawProf Blog.

David Orentlicher, Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law, Co-director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health, Co-Director of the Program on Law and State Government, In addition to his positions at the law school, David Orentlicher is an adjunct professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from November 2002 to November 2008, he authored legislation to make health care insurance more affordable, increase the pool of venture capital for new businesses, and ensure better protection of children from abuse and neglect..

Full & Part-Time Faculty

Cynthia A. Baker, Director of the Program on Law and State Government, is faculty advisor for several health law externships through the Program on Law and State Government. These include externships with the Indiana Department of Insurance (Consumer Protection Unit), State Department of Health, Attorney General's Office (Medicaid Fraud Unit and Medical Licensing Unit), and Family and Social Services Administration.

Jennifer A. Drobac teaches a bioethics course that examines ethical, legal, and policy issues surrounding the AIDS pandemic. Her scholarly work has been published in a variety of law reviews and journals, and she recently finished her first textbook, Sexual Harassment Law: History, Cases and Theory. Professor Drobac serves on the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Board of Trustees.

Ralph F. Hall, Visiting Adjunct Professor of Law, Professor Ralph F. Hall is also Counsel to the Indianapolis, Indiana law firm of Baker & Daniels where he counsels clients in the area of drug and medical device regulation. He also serves as CEO of MR3 Medical LLC, a start-up medical device company.

Robert A. Katz holds a joint appointment with the law school and the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy at IUPUI and is a member of the Affiliate Faculty of the Indiana University Center for Bioethics. He teaches courses on the law of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations and business and legal aspects of health care organizations. His research interests include legal issues relating to the nonprofit sector, charitable giving, and the donation and processing of human tissue for use in transplantation.

Priscilla D. Keith, Adjunct Professor and Director of Research and Projects for the Hall Center for Law and Health. Keith previously served as the General Counsel of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County, in Indianapolis, including Wishard Health Services, the Marion County Health Department, and Environmental Services. Her primary focus was litigation, corporate transactions, and risk management, and serving as the counsel for the Marion County Health Department’s Ryan White HIV AIDS Legal Project. Prior to her legal career, Keith worked for Eli Lilly and Company in discovery research, environmental and medical plans. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, and serves on its Council, and is the Interest Group Leader. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Providence Cristo Rey High School in Indianapolis, Visiting Nurses Service, the State of Indiana Ethics Commission and St. Mary’s Child Center.

Fran Quigley, Clinical Professor of Law, Health and Human Rights Clinic, Senior Advisor for the IU Center for Global Health. Quigley teaches in the Health and Human Rights Clinic, a medical-legal partnership where students represent the legal needs of patients from the low-income ethnically diverse community served by the Wishard Westside Community Health Center and also is the senior advisor to the IU Center for Global Health, where he works with the AMPATH and Legal Aid Centre of Eldoret (LACE) programs in Kenya.

Andrew R. Klein, Paul E. Beam Professor of Law, Chief of Staff, Office of the Chancellor of IUPUI. Professor Klein taught at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and practiced with the Chicago firm of Sidley & Austin. Professor Klein earned a B.A. with distinction in journalism and economics from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. with distinction from the Emory University School of Law, where he studied as a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow in Law and was editor-in-chief of the Emory Law Journal. Professor Klein’s interests focus on the intersection of tort and environmental law.

Emily Morris, Associate Professor of Law and Dean's Fellow, came to IU during the summer of 2008. She teachs patent law, copyright law, and intellectual property survey courses. Before joining the Indiana University faculty, Professor Morris was a visiting associate professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she taught both Patent Law and Patent Litigation. She earned her A.B. (magna cum laude) from Harvard University and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (magna cum laude), where she was an articles editor on the Michigan Law Review . Professor Morris's current work focuses on economic analysis of various patent law issues, including the effects of patent claim construction and scope on incentives and innovation.

Faculty Emeritus

Eleanor D. Kinney is the Hall Render Professor of Law Emeritus and founding director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health at Indiana University Robert H. McKiinney School of Law. She is also an adjunct professor in the IU School of Medicine's Department of Public Health. A widely published author and respected lecturer on the subjects of America’s health care system, medical malpractice, health coverage for the poor, and issues in administrative law, Professor Kinney is author or co-author of numerous law review articles, peer-reviewed health policy articles, book chapters and book reviews. Professor Kinney received her J.D. and B.A. (with distinction in history) from Duke University. She also has a masters degree in public health from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a masters degree in European history from the University of Chicago. Professor Kinney is a member for the American Law Institute.
