Research and Writing
Students must complete a major research paper on a health law topic. Students can complete the Research Paper Requirement in three ways: (1) Advanced Research in Health Law (2 cr.); (2) Completion of a note for the Indiana Health Law Review; or (3) Paper for other purpose with prior written approval fromthe Executive Director of the Hall Center for Law and Health. The major research paper required in a joint degree program may also satisfy the Research Paper Requirement for the Health Law Concentration and the Senior Writing Requirement for the JD program with prior written approval from the Executive Director of the Center. Students should make plans to start their Research Paper Requirement in Health Law in 2F (Day), 2S (Evening). Senior writing papers which also serve as concentration papers must be completed in the manner described in this paragraph and not through other options for completing a senior writing paper.
Graduation with Distinction in Health Law
For “Graduation with Distinction in Health Law,” students must complete the concentration with at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA in all of the courses in the concentration and must attain at least a grade of B- in each course counted toward the concentration. A student who enrolls in more than the required number of courses need not include the extra courses in the minimum GPA calculation. The student must make a grade of A- or above on the senior writing paper in health law. A student must obtain a GPA of 3.0 at graduation.
Declaration of Concentration
Students who have decided to pursue the concentration must complete an Intent to Concentrate Form. Students will be encouraged to declare their intent between the end of the first year and the beginning of the second year (day students) or during the second year (evening students). In the semester in which they complete the concentration, students must file a Concentration Completion Form to show the course work and written work that satisfies the concentration requirements. All forms should be turned in to the Coordinator of the Center for Law and Health for processing.
Recognition of the Concentration
For students who complete the concentration, documentation of their concentration will be included on their official law school transcript.
