Bio
Following his graduation from the George Washington University Law School, where he was notes editor of The George Washington Law Review, Professor Grove served for two years as law clerk in the chambers of Honorable Ruggero J. Aldisert, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. During his tenure, he also assisted Judge Aldisert in teaching the Federal Jurisdiction course at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Professor Grove joined the faculty of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1971. As a tenured professor of law, specializing in the areas of federal practice and procedure, he served in several administrative capacities, including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (1981-86); Acting Dean (1986-1988); and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies (2002-07), responsible for establishing and overseeing the law school’s graduate law degree programs: the Master of Laws (LL.M.) and the Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.). In his role as Graduate Studies Dean, he delivered presentations on behalf of the law school in countries in both Europe and Asia, including England, France, Germany, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and China. He was also the faculty advisor for the LL.M. track in American Law for Foreign Lawyers (2003-07). On three occasions he was a v isiting p rofessor of l aw at other law schools: the University Of Illinois College Of Law (fall 1990) and the University Of Idaho College Of Law (1979-80 and spring 1988).
For more than 15 years, Professor Grove was Director of the law school’s Chinese Law Summer Program, which he established in 1987 at East China University of Political Science & Law in Shanghai and relocated in 1998 to Renmin (People’s) University of China School of Law in Beijing, and in which he taught as Resident Professor. He traveled to China regularly over 20 years, where he visited more than a dozen law schools, lectured to students, law faculties, judges and lawyers throughout China , and was on Sabbatical Leave in spring/summer 1994. In 1998 he was appointed Honorary Professor of Renmin University of China.
Professor Grove served as the Chair of the Board of Faculty Advisors of the Indiana International & Comparative Law Review; a member of the Board of Directors of the law school’s Center for International & Comparative Law; a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law; and remains an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI). He also continues as a Senior Associate at the Indiana University Research Center for Chinese Politics and Business.
