Each of the following activities could be planned if enough interest was expressed...
If you would like to attend any of these events in your spare time in Indianapolis, please email the contact person listed at the end of the event paragraph and let them know you would be interested!
Indianapolis Indians Baseball
The Indianapolis Indians (the AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) will host the Toledo Mudhens on Sunday, July 13, before the conference opens (unfortunately they then leave on a road trip for the remainder of the week). The Indians play at Victory Field, just a few short blocks from either the Hyatt or the law school. Victory Field has been described by Sports Illustrated as the “Best Minor League Ballpark in America.” Ticket prices can’t be beat; the best seats in the house (and they are great seats) are only $13, and even cheaper if we get a group of 20 or more. If you are interested in arriving early for the conference and taking in the Great American Pastime in a great American ballpark, please e-mail Ken Chestek at email@example.com.
Downtown Canal Run
Join your colleagues for a refreshing Wednesday morning run or walk along the freshly-cleaned Downtown Canal! The Canal features wide sidewalks and access to White River State Park, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, and the Medal of Honor Memorial garden. On Wednesday morning, July 16, at 7:00 a.m., we will gather at the Military Park entrance to the Canal for either a 5-K or a 5-mile fun run/walk (you can decide that morning which course to follow). No entry fee (but also no t-shirts or race numbers!); just join in for an informal run or walk with your legal writing colleagues. (Please sign up at the registration table so we’ll have an idea of how many people to expect!)
RCA Tennis Championships
Our conference has the good fortune of being scheduled during the same week as the RCA Tennis Championships, which are held at the tennis stadium just across Military Park from the law school. The tournament features many of the top tennis professionals in the world, and is scheduled to run from July 12 through July 20. If there is sufficient interest, we can purchase a block of tickets for the Thursday evening match in the main stadium (likely to be a quarter-final match). Ticket prices are TBD. If you are interested in this event, please e-mail Ken Chestek at firstname.lastname@example.org.
