Analysis as More Than Case Synthesis: Teaching Statutory Analysis in a First Year Legal Writing Course
E. Joan Blum
Program Code: T3D
Teaching legal analysis is a goal of virtually every legal writing curriculum, but for most legal writing courses, teaching analysis means primarily teaching students how to analyze and synthesize cases. This presentation will address what the trend toward greater emphasis on statutes across the first year curriculum means for first year legal writing courses and walk through a problem that teaches students to work with a statute that has several interrelated sections.
